Angry Insane costs for useless items

I have a simple question.

Why is it people are demanding 4k for a stupid vile of dye? or 10k for a bow?

These items have no value, and rarity means nothing in this game. This is almost as bad as Diablo 2 and the stones of jordan.

I see people all over the place with Firey dragon swords, chaos axes and storm bows, and yet, people insist they are not only rare, but worth 10 platinums.

whats worse, people are selling items for over 100 platinums! where is the sense in that?

these are utterly USELESS pieces of NOTHING. Honestly nothing in this game should cost more then 5 platinums in, or out of the store. Otherwise the loot we aquire should be sold for more gold.

what matter for items is not the item itself but the mods on it...say you just get a white norma chaos axe...thats going to be signfically less than say a Chaos Axe with Perf Vamp 3:1, perf +hp, and perf +dmg %. and people price is so high cuz they CAN. People are WILLING to pay for that much for an item so why not sell it at the highest price?

Why is everyone demanding high prices? Simple, people will buy it at that price.

Lots of demand, scarce items, not hard to guess what the result is.

Are you sure it wasn't a Vial of Ink? Cos that's a rare crafting material for monk armor and worth quite a bit. More than dye for sure. Not 4k though, last time I checked with the rare material trader.

The prices are also high because gold is so easy to come by There is too much gold in the game so a lot of people can and will pay more. I managed to easily make over 100k in just over 2 weeks play, and I wasnt even trying too hard.

Even if you have 100k it'd be stupid to buy these items from humans at rediculous prices when you can get them much cheaper from a trader.

It's just that some newbies (both on the selling and buying side) are not aware that you can get many things cheaper from traders, crafters and collectors.

Actually, last time I checked black dye was worth 4,000 gold at the dye trader... basically it's popular. When demand goes up, prices do too...

Gold has no value in this game. Its easy to get a lot (allthough I must admit I never have more than like 20k because I'm too lazy to spend time trading ) and there are not much ways to spend it. A 15 k armor can be obtained by collectors. You can infuse it by doing a quest. Other items like weapons, rods and shields can have ultimate stats for one particular profession, and than they are worth a lot. Allthough they may seem not very spectacular for those who dont care much about details (and in fact I doubt if its really worth it if you only play pve). Also many players like to LOOK great. So they pay a lot to find a shining sword, dye of the right color (especailly black), if it fits their fashion... I would not care if I were you, unless you have problems obtaining something you think is 'common' because the price is so high.

I have a proposal, to get rid of some of all that gold. They should start out a marked for Random items. It should a sort of gambleng, where you would have to pay for an uncertain item, which might be good as wel as bad, these items should only be collectable at a Gambler, so you would have to gamble to get some of these items. This could eventually remove some of the gold in a short while (if the prices is put high enough.)

I too think it is insane with those high prices, maybe you should remove the trade option completely to make sure you created your character totally on your own.

How can you compare dye to stones of jordan... SoJs were currency in d2 until runes took over not a useless item. Not only were they currency they were very commonly used.

That being said, spend your money how you want, we'll spend it how we want.

This thread is spam everyone that comes on this site who can't afford something makes this thread.

Items are worth as much as players are willing to pay for them.

I think some of the problem, unlike SoJs in D2, is that there are too many things being used for currency. There are simply too many rare, seldom-seen items in the game. I don't think it's a bad thing. After all, there are so many cool things to make and so many different types of characters and many different things need to be around. However, to get the economy in balance, something, and I don't know exactly WHAT, needs to be done.

It's bad enough that the economy sucks IRL now we have to face an equally stinkin' economy in our GAME too! :P

The economy is set by the players, not the game. Therefore, if you don't like the price of an item then don't buy it. If enough people followed this simply rule then the prices will drop.

Well, the players don't actually have any control over the economy because you can't just make everybody not buy something or make everybody put stuff at a certain price, etc. People are logical and they will follow simple rules like supply and demand if they act logically. However, items like fiery dragon swords, chaos axes, etc are way overpriced (i'm not talking about the ones that have perfect +health, etc). Some people are selling mediocre dragon swords to newbies for high price.

I don't get what's the big deal about fiery dragon swords. They usually have 10 req. and come with no mods...

On other hand I have found swords with way better stats and the only diff. is no glow :/

The players are in control and logic has nothing to do with it. If someone wants to overcharge for an item then simply don't buy it. They will eventually lower the price.

As far as other items such as dye and runes then those prices are set according to how often they are sold to the merchants. If only a few people sell them to merchants then the price will be high. If someone attempts to sell a vial of dye for more than what it would cost to buy it from the merchant then either buy it from the merchant or don't buy it at all. If you give in to the over priced seller then we, the players, are causing the problem. Not the game's fault.

Exactly. This reminds me of situation that happened to me while at Lion's Arch. I wanted to buy a shocking bow string and some trader offered to sell it to me. I asked him "for how much?" and he replied "1.5K". I knew right off the bat that bow strings of this type (fiery, icy, ebon, shocking) do not cost this much. Only morons would buy it for this much. I thought to myself this bastard is trying to rip me off. I replied back to him "this is ridiculous, I thought bow strings go for around 400-700g. A bow string should not cost more than 700 at most". He said "you thought wrong my friend". So I left, and went on to do some quests. About an hour later I came back to Lion's Arch and I saw him now offering the shocking bow string for 500g. And I said to myself "what an SOB!".

Yesterday I saw a funny thing at Ascalon City. There was this guy actually enforcer traders to offer reasonable selling prices of their items. He was actually monitoring the traders to see if they are offering overpriced items that shouldn't cost more than what they are really worth. And if someone was overcharging an item, he would announce it in the chat channel in all caps, LOL. It was pretty hilarious.
